Communication is an important asset that we take for granted. I try to make every moment a teaching/learning moment. I am not good at sugarcoating information so, my children and I talk about everything. I speak to them about money, sex, politics, drugs, etc. I keep my children well informed about life at every stage.
People expect that children should be seen and not heard and blindly obedient … and my question is what kind of adult are you producing. Will they be assertive? Will they ask questions or will they be blindly compliant to the system?
I don’t want that mentality for children. I want children that can think for themselves. I want creative children. I want children to teach them how to be responsible and reliable adults. I want children that will be able to handle money when they grow up; that starts now by teaching them how to budget and save beyond a need or a want. Children should not be name brand blinded beyond their means. I am not saying to get name brand things, but it should not be your sneakers versus the light bill. Being responsible is important to maintain a proper balance.
We need to go the extra mile to understand our children. They have likes and dislikes. I am not saying to let them run amuck and not be supervised. We should communicate effectively so that we create a generation of adults that know how to participate in a proper conversation.

Welcome to Tani’s World
Victoria Robinson
I am learning to raise my daughter to be her own individual. It hurt me to the core to hear her say that I really do not know her. I had gotten too numb to my own way of life and pain that my teenager had developed her own way of coping with my numbness. Now, I am getting “woke” with it and more conscious of her needs and requests for love in simple ways that count so she can be more open to expressing her strength.

Victoria I understand that completely… I have two children. My son has autism and he can be very blunt at times. I take the time to listen to them and ask what I call truth Questions… What Can I do to be better for you? sometime we have to hear from them to improve for them. I ask the hard questions and they are allowed to give me the hard answers without recourse. I am happy you were able to start turning things around; many of us parents are stuck in our ways and refuse to adapt. Thank you for reading and sharing.
