We all have to be selfish sometimes to keep ourselves healthy. Healthy not just in body but, in mind and spirit as well. Naturally, as a mom, I nurture my children and everyone around me. I give so much of myself and forget that I need to pause and take care of me. I have creative businesses so, my mind is always working, and thinks about ideas and how to schedule my day.
I went on an overnight retreat last year shortly after I was diagnosed. We went for a massage, ate out, then had time to chat about some issues then rested. I work up early the next morning and sat outside in the sun and drink my coffee. I had no dog, no children, no hubby, and no phone just me and nature. I enjoyed the fresh air and the chirping birds then like other women from the retreat started coming out to join me; I realized how much I needed to relax.
I was able to collect all the loose marbles of my mind and focus on me. I realize that the interactions with other women just chit-chatting without thinking about what I had to do next was great. I needed Balance in my LIFE. I was not enjoying LIFE as I should have. I was not taking the time out to reconnect myself with nature and space around me. I needed to take some time away and tend to myself. I have to BALANCE my responsibilities (family, business, and relationships) and myself. While going through my sickness, I had to slow down to almost a halt. I had to know that being tired meant I had to rest. I had so many limitations that I had to slow down and keep still. My body made sure it got what it needed.
We, caregivers, lack the insight on tending to ourselves. We give orders all day about how things should be done and how to get things done. Now we, caregivers, need to understand BALANCE. Without BALANCE we will be too drained to perform the duties that keep everything and everyone functioning. I have seen first hand what happens when I am not able to keep charge… it is not pretty.

I know a few moms and dads that take days off, it is a great way to relax and destress.
I am always told to take time out for myself but I am ok with not having me time, I know soon enough I will have alot of me time. Once my kids are out on their own I will have more than I know what to do with.
